ABSTRACT

The human intervention in the natural environment is a common characteristic of each era-and it cannot be judged since all the organisms are claiming their environmental share. Today however, is quite different the degree of intervention in the natural environmental, and the way the modern man perceives the natural environment. In antiquity environmental protection was closely linked to the sacredness of nature, it was manifested in the deification of the phenomena and the elements of nature. Today these perceptions are extremely useful and interesting, as we understand that the environmental crisis is primarily a cultural crisis, crisis of values.

In the context of this thesis we will attempt to approach the man and his action on the natural environment during the years of antiquity in general and then focus on how the man acted in relation to the natural environment in the antiquities in our region. This thesis aims to become a dual function that can occur in the archaeological sites: Environmental Education can act as a means of highlighting the cultural heritage and also the archaeological sites and monuments could cater for the Environmental Education with the knowledge of the environmental issues, approaches and management in earlier times.
